Child Find Procedures
In accordance with State and Federal Regulations (IDEA ’04), we at American Leadership Academy routinely conduct Child Find activities to identify, locate, and evaluate children with developmental delays or disabilities, who need early intervention or special education and related services.
For children who are birth to 4 years of age, we refer parents to the Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) for infants and toddlers.
For children who are 5 - 21 years of age who are not students at ALA, we refer parents to the School District in which the child resides.
For children who are students at ALA, an overall educational screening is performed within 45 days of enrollment. It is filled out by the student’s teacher(s) and covers academic and behavioral observations. It also includes a hearing and vision screening. Parents will be notified if any impairments or areas of concern are found.
For ALA students who may not be reaching developmental milestones or making academic progress, a Student Support Team (SST) may also be formed to work with parents and teachers to address the student’s academic needs.
ALA routinely performs:
- Pure-tone screenings (hearing)
- Distance screenings (vision)
- Speech and language screenings (articulation and language fundamentals)
- Academic achievement and progress monitoring
All procedures are for the educational benefit and overall success of the student.
Records are located in locked cabinets in the Administrative offices, and all information is confidential. Access to ALA student records follows the policies outlined in the Annual Notification of Confidentiality as posted on the ALA Website: www.alaschools.org.
