Dress Code
Dress codes improve the classroom learning environment, build citizenship and a sense of community, and assist parents and families. Dress codes are unifying to the group, while encouraging the individuality of thought, character, and wisdom to shine to its greatest capacity. Dress code compliance is mandatory and must be worn during school hours, except under special circumstances as announced by the school.
Pants/Skirts/Shorts: Black, navy blue or khaki and must be knee-length for shorts and skirts.
Shirts/Blouses: Shirts and blouses mu be white, navy blue, baby blue, red or hunter green. Blouses may be worn out if they are made that way. They must hang below the waistband and they must have a collar.
Appearance: Students must present a clean, modest, and neat appearance. Shirts must have sleeves and collars and be tucked in. Shoes must be tied or fastened and clothing must be worn right-side-out. All clothing must be clean, appropriately sized, and worn correctly. No “low-riding” of pants, skirts, skorts, or shorts is allowed. Contrasting top-stitching on any item is prohibited. Clothing shall not be excessively worn, have holes, or be intentionally torn or ripped. Clothing may have the approved school logo only. Clothing must be solid-colored. Jeans or any denim items are prohibited.
Footwear: Shoes should be conservative in style. Students may wear non-distracting athletic or dress shoes (no lights, or charms). Heelys and shoes with wheels are strictly prohibited. Heels must be closed toed and closed heel. Heels or soles may not be higher than 2 inches. Sandals, slippers, and dance footwear are prohibited at all times. Athletic shoes are required for P.E. class.
Socks: Socks may be worn, but are not required. Socks should coordinate with the uniform: navy, khaki, hunter green, black or white. Girls may also wear appropriate smooth opaque or cable knit tights in navy, red, hunter green, black or white. Knee-high socks with skirts and skorts are acceptable.
Belts: Male students must wear belts. Belts must be black, brown or neutral in color.
Underclothing: Underclothing should not be visible. Plain white undershirts worn under uniform shirts should be tucked in. Girls are encouraged to wear bike shorts under skirts and jumpers that are not visible below the hem.
Hemlines: The hemlines in jumpers, skirts, skorts, or shorts shall be knee length or longer.
Jewelry, etc.: Jewelry must not be a distraction to the educational environment of the class or school. Girls may wear one pair of earrings on their ear lobes. Boys may not wear earrings. No body piercing is allowed. Items of medical or religious significance are acceptable. Sunglasses should not be worn inside the school building.
Cosmetics: Any makeup worn should be appropriate for school and should not be a distraction.
Hair: Hair must be kept neat, have a combed appearance, and be appropriate for school. Boys’ hair cannot be longer than the top of the shirt collar. Irregular coloring of hair or outlandish hairstyles are inappropriate.
Head coverings: No hats of any kind, including baseball caps, may be worn inside the school building. Head coverings of a religious nature (e.g. yarmulke, hijab, etc.) are permitted.
Outerwear: Outerwear that is worn for warmth to and from school and at outside recess is not considered a uniform item. Any school authorized or solid color coat, jacket, sweater, sweatshirt, hat, gloves, may be worn to and from school and for warmth during outdoor activities, but may not be worn inside the classroom.
Backpacks: Language, logos, or pictures that are controversial or profane on backpacks are not acceptable and will be confiscated.
Religious Freedom: Children may wear non-uniform items that are required by their religious beliefs.
It is the responsibility of the parent to make sure that the proper uniform is worn to school.
