American Leadership Academy Patriots experienced another successful year at Gem States National Ballroom Competition. Friday morning Trevor Jones and Nadia Mathews competed in the National Couples Cabaret Championship. They received a 94.3 Superior taking 2nd place in Division 1, the highest division.

Later that afternoon Ballroom (Division 1) and Backup Ballroom (Division 2) competed in the Gem State National Competition. They received 11 superior ratings from 90.3 to 94.7 and received a superior plus 95.6 in the final genre of novelty. Giving our team 1st overall.
Saturday ALA Patriots competed in the Syllabus Bronze Newcomer Cha Cha and Swing. Where we placed 6th, 7th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st in the Cha Cha and 6th, 5th, 3rd and 2nd in the Swing. Participants for the syllabus numbered 100+.
“Aside from competition, the overall experience of Gem State was the behind the scenes moments that showed the character and power of our students. From thanking the Charter Bus driver Jerry every time they entered the bus, to small notes they delivered to each other. Good luck treats were delivered to new coming teams, and positivity and kindness pushed other teams to see what ALA Patriots were all about. As a coach, I had hotel staff seek me out sharing what a great group of students I had, strangers on the plane stop me and state that I had “the most amazing” students. The last and arguably the most important part of the trip was the visit to a local Rest Home Facility in Idaho Falls. The students danced a few routines, asked patrons to dance with them and spent an hour visiting with some remarkable people who taught the students the power of living a great story.” – Ms. Clare
