RAISE – New Leadership Program

RAISE – New Leadership Program

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the start of what will be the best year ever at American Leadership Academy! The future for our students and for ALA has never been brighter. We are excited about the future as we focus on implementing and achieving our vision, mission and values. As a reminder, our vision is Learn. Lead. Change the World! Our mission is to provide the best educational experience to as many students as possible in a moral and wholesome environment. Because of our commitment to ALA’s vision and mission, we have created a leadership development program for our teachers, administrators, staff and students.

This program is based on our shared values of Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service and Excellence, creating the acronym RAISE. We RAISE leaders! RAISE has assembled the most powerful leadership principles from human development experts such as Dr. Stephen R. Covey, James Kouzes, Barry Posner, Chris Brady, Jim Collins, Napoleon Hill, John Maxwell, Werner Ehrhard, the Arbinger Institute and many others.

Each Wednesday, students will participate in a leadership lesson based on the value of the month as follows: August-Respect; September-Accountability; October-Integrity; November-Service; December- Excellence. The sequence of these values-based leadership lessons will repeat during the second semester starting in January. Students will record their experiences, their goals and academic achievements in a leadership portfolio that we have provided for each student. Students will be encouraged to apply these values to their academic experience, but more importantly, will make commitments to use them as leaders in their home and community. They will literally realize ALA’s vision, Learn. Lead. Change the World!

In addition to the formal leadership lessons, every teacher has committed to demonstrate leadership as their natural expression in the classroom. This “ubiquitous” approach to leadership development is the most effective way to RAISE leaders. In the near term, be on the lookout for information regarding a leadership development course for parents, Raising Leaders in the Home. We are excited to provide a leadership program for our community as a means to give back and say thank you. Questions regarding RAISE can be directed to our Director of Leadership Development, Mr. Erik Huso at ehuso@alaschools.org.

We look forward to locking arms together with you as we lead to teach, and teach to lead.

Kindest regards,

Brent McArthur
