  • Students are required to have a minimum of 24 credits to graduate.
  • Maintain a 3.8 or higher weighted GPA.
  • Complete all Arizona Department of Education graduation requirements as well as Arizona University admission requirements.
  • Students in the STEM program are required to complete additional credits beyond the minimum state graduation requirements of 3 Science and 4 Math: 2-3 additional credits in Science/Tech/Engineering (AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, Honors Anatomy, Robotics, Cyber Patriot, or CTE Web Design), and a minimum of 1 additional Math credit (AP Calculus, Calculus 2, AP Statistics).

American Leadership Academy is committed to preparing students for college readiness in science, medicine, engineering, and math majors.

America has a crisis. First, of the 3.2 million students who earned high school diplomas this year, at least one third of those who attend college from this group will require remediation. Estimates show the U.S. will have over 1.2 million unfilled jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math by 2018. The crisis we face pits these unfilled jobs against a population that is not qualified or prepared to do them. Students prepared in STEM-related disciplines enjoy higher starting salaries and lower unemployment rates than the population at large.

Summer enrichments are required in the STEM Program. Summer enrichments may be held at both American Leadership Academy and other locations. These courses should not be a financial burden. Turn in evidence of a minimum – 10 enrichment hours to Mrs. Eames – Student Services. Hours will be tracked and used as completion requirements for the STEM Honors Diploma.

STEM Internship

The summer STEM Experience is required after the student’s junior year. Although details of what the STEM Experience will entail are still being processed, participation in the STEM Experience is required.

Additional Science and Math Courses

Additional Science courses, Math courses, and Extension classes may be taken at American Leadership Academy and/or Maricopa Community Colleges or ASU Polytechnic. Courses that are taken at Maricopa Community College or ASU Polytechnic will be reciprocated as high school elective credits.

College Entrance Exams

STEM students are required to take the PSAT, SAT, and ACT exams.
