Challenging Pathways to College Success

ALA schools provide numerous opportunities for students to earn college credit, including AP courses, dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, and AGEC (Arizona General Education Curriculum) Certificates and Associate Degrees, while still in high school. These courses are built to accelerate learning and enrich understanding. They challenge students with a faster pace, encourage deeper exploration and discovery, and prepare them for success in college.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) courses  follow the College Board course of study, designed to prepare students for a course-specific AP exam. A score of 3 or better on an AP exam may allow the student to earn credit at the post secondary school of choice or to earn placement in a higher level course at the institution. However, students are responsible for researching the accepted credits and/or placement with the college institution for which they are applying. Students who receive a D or F in Honors or AP courses may be removed from those courses at the semester upon administrative approval. AP courses receive a weighted grade based on a 5.0 scale.

Students will register as a college student; and upon receiving a grade of C or higher, will receive college credit(s) while simultaneously receiving high school credit. These credits may also count toward the student’s college-level diploma. Please talk with your Student Services Advisor for more information. Dual Enrollment courses receive a weighted grade based on a 5.0 scale.

NOTE: Dual Enrollment courses are labeled with DE in the course title in the course catalog.
