A great education starts in a community where everyone belongs. Our uniform policy is designed to promote equality, elevate school spirit, and keep the focus right where it belongs: on learning, growth, and student success.

This webpage is intended as a quick-reference summary of our general guidelines.
The Parent & Student Handbook is the official source for all detailed dress code requirements and governs in the event of any discrepancies.

Benefits of School Uniforms

School uniforms offer a wide range of benefits for students, families, and schools. These include:

  • Promotes Equality: Uniforms help reduce peer pressure and bullying related to clothing brands or fashion trends by ensuring all students dress the same. This creates a more inclusive and accepting school environment.
  • Reduces Distractions: With a standard dress code in place, students are less likely to focus on clothing comparisons and more likely to stay engaged with learning.
  • Enhances School Spirit and Unity: Uniforms build a sense of pride and belonging by giving students a shared identity. When everyone wears the same colors and logos, it reinforces a positive school culture.
  • Improves Safety: A consistent dress code makes it easier to identify who belongs on campus, helping staff quickly spot outsiders or potential threats. It also prevents gang-related clothing and helps maintain a respectful, focused atmosphere.
  • Saves Time and Money: Uniforms simplify morning routines and reduce the need to purchase trendy or expensive clothing. Many families find that school uniforms are more cost-effective over time and eliminate daily outfit debates.

General Uniform Guidelines

  • Shirts must be solid in color—Red, White, Gray or Navy Blue.
  • They must have a collar and at least one button.
  • Cardigans may be worn but must be solid in color—Red, White, Blue, Black or Gray.
  • Both shirts and cardigans must bear either an ALA patch or an embroidered ALA logo on the left-hand side, over the heart.
  • Pants, capris, skirts, skorts, jumpers and shorts must be Khaki, Tan, Black, Gray, Navy Blue, White, or Cream in color.
  • Shoes must be closed-toed and heeled, and no more than 2” in height. Girls may wear open-toed sandals with a heel strap.
  • Jeans may be worn on Fridays but must be solid in color—blue or black.

Magnetic Patches

Magnetic patches are a convenient alternative to traditional sewn or embroidered ALA logo patches on uniforms. These patches feature the official school logo and use a pair of strong magnets to clasp to the fabric. Magnetic patches may be purchased through the front office at any ALA campus.

Girl Uniforms

  • Shorts, skirts and dresses will be knee length when standing.
  • Shirts may be sheer as long as they are solid and match the color requirements. They must be worn with at least a cap-sleeved undershirt.
  • Earrings cannot be any larger than a quarter.
  • Leggings, jeggings, yoga pants, etc. are not acceptable.
  • Denim shirts are not acceptable.

Boy Uniforms

  • Shirts must be tucked in and a belt must be worn.
  • Hair must be trimmed above the ears, collar, and eyebrows.
