Preparing Students for College, Career, and Life
American Leadership Academy Anthem South provides tuition-free public charter education for students in grades 6–12 in Florence, Arizona, serving families in Florence, San Tan Valley, and surrounding communities.
At Anthem South, students strengthen core academic skills, explore electives and advanced coursework, develop leadership, work toward graduation, and begin making informed decisions about college, technical education, military service, careers, and life after high school.

Junior High at Anthem South
Preparing for High School
These years help students move from the structure of elementary school into a more independent academic experience. Students begin managing several courses, teachers, assignments, deadlines, and responsibilities while continuing to strengthen knowledge in the core academic subjects.
During junior high school, students and families can become familiar with ALA’s graduation requirements, diploma pathways, advanced coursework, electives, Fine Arts, Career and Technical Education, college entrance expectations, and other opportunities.
Two Year Plan
Students and families work together during grades 7 and 8 to develop a two-year plan that prepares students for high school coursework and future academic expectations.
Education and Career Action Plan
In 8th grade, students begin developing their Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) with support from a Student Services Advisor, exploring high school coursework, career interests, and long-term goals.
High School Credit
Some junior high coursework may qualify for high school credit, including Algebra 1 and Geometry. High school-level world language may earn credit with a C or above and at least 80% on the final exam.

Pathways to Graduation and Future Success
High school at Anthem South is designed to help students complete graduation requirements while preparing for a future that reflects their individual goals. Students balance required coursework with electives and opportunities to explore academic interests, college-level learning, Fine Arts, career pathways, leadership, athletics, and student life.
Because graduation is just the beginning, our academic programs are built to be flexible and forward-looking. Student work closely with advisors to choose from multiple diploma pathways, with opportunities to earn college credits or trade certifications before they even step off campus.

Academic Support and Student Growth
ALA's academic model recognizes that students learn at different rates and times. Students are given multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery, and assessment retakes may be available according to course and school guidelines.
This approach supports student growth, reduces the need for credit recovery, and helps students continue building mastery of important academic standards.
Assessments
Students enrolled in Arizona public education participate in required state assessments.
Junior High: Students in grades 7 and 8 complete state assessments in reading, writing, and math. 8th graders also take the state science assessment and the civics exam.
High School: Students participate in assessments such as ACT Aspire, AzSCI, and the ACT, depending on grade level and state requirements, and must meet the civics exam requirement for graduation.
Beyond Graduation
Career and Technical Education
College is one possible path after graduation, but it is not the only one. Career exploration helps students understand how their interests, strengths, academic choices, and post-secondary training can connect with real occupations. Students may also be interested in:

- Career and Technical Education (CTE)
- Apprenticeships
- Military service
- Entrepreneurship
- Direct entry into the workforce

Students interested in technical or career-focused pathways should work with Student Services to determine which current ALA or partner opportunities may fit within their graduation plan. Or take a tour of our CTE-focused campus ALA Applied Technologies for CTE courses with certificates students can earn that serve them beyond school.
Advanced Academic Opportunities
ALA Radiance offers academic opportunities designed to challenge students and help them prepare for college-level expectations. Depending on grade level, campus offerings, and student readiness, students may have access to:

- Dual Enrollment courses
- Advanced math, science, English, and history options
- College credit opportunities
