COVID-19 Guidelines

  Symptomatic Asymptomatic
Student Awaiting Test Results Stay home away from others or under isolation precautions until results are available. Follow the guidance in this table for symptomatic and tested positive. Once results are available, follow the recommendations based on results. * No isolation is required while waiting for test results. Take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Once results are available, follow recommendations based on results. ALA asks if you suspect your student has COVID-19 please keep them home.  
Student Tested Positive for COVID-19  

Please notify your campus by contacting the attendance clerk or front office; await a return call from the district health office. Stay home away from others or under isolation precautions until:  

·                     At least 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared; AND   

·                     At least 24 hours have passed fever free and other symptoms improving without the use of medication  

·                     CDC recommends wearing a mask through the 10th day from symptom onset.  

Note:  Persons who test positive for COVID-19 by PCR or antigen test (nose/throat swab, or saliva) should follow isolation guidance, regardless of vaccination status.  

Please contact your campus attendance and await a call from the district health.  Stay home, away from others or under isolation precautions until:  

·                     At least 5 days have passed since the day after specimen collection of the first positive COVID-19 test while asymptomatic.   

·                     If symptoms develop, follow guidance for symptomatic and tested positive for COVID-19.    

·                     Take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  

·                     CDC recommends wearing a mask through the 10-day period following specimen collection.

Student Tested Negative for COVID-19  

Please apply ALA Illness Policy, students may return after 24 hours symptom free without the use of medication.*  

Exception- If your student has been directly exposed to COVID-19 in the last 5 days follow the guidance under “Exposed Symptomatic”. 

No isolation is required. Take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.   
Student Not Tested

Please apply the ALA Illness Policy. Students may return after 24 hours symptom free without the use of medication. *  

Exception- If your student has been directly exposed to COVID-19 in the last 5 days follow the guidance under “Exposed Symptomatic”.  

No isolation is required. Take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  
Exposed

Stay home away from others under isolation precautions for 5 days from the day after symptom onset AND 24 hours fever free and other symptoms improving without the use of medication.  

 *CDC recommends testing on the 5th day from exposure and wearing a mask through the 10-day incubation period. 

Exposed students should quarantine for 5 days from the last date of exposure to COVID-19, monitor daily for symptoms and maintain social distancing as much as possible.     

**CDC recommends the student wear a mask through the 10-day incubation period. If symptoms develop follow the guidance under “Exposed Symptomatic”  

Notes

* If your student needs to quarantine or isolate please coordinate with your campus for academic materials to ensure your student’s success.  

**Fully vaccinated persons with an exposure to someone with COVID-19 do not need to quarantine if they meet ALL of the following criteria:  Are not inpatients/residents in healthcare or congregate healthcare settings; AND Are fully vaccinated (i.e. 2 weeks or more have passed after receiving the second dose in a 2-dose series, or 2 weeks or more have passed since receiving one dose in a 1-dose series.    

*** Individuals that tested positive with a PCR or Antigen test within the previous 90 days do not need to quarantine.
