Art Mission Statement

They say, art is in the eye of the beholder.  At GNHS, we strive to help students grow and develop their artistry through varied media and coursework.  Students can take Art as an elective in both Junior and Senior High School.  Furthering their study,  they can continue their skill development with electives in Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture.  Digital art mediums are unearthed within CTE coursework in Digital Photography and Graphic Design.   Student masterpieces are showcased throughout the year in our hallways and during both Winter and Spring Fine Arts Performances.

Meet Gilbert North's 7-12 Art Teacher

André Mossman received his Bachelors in Fine Arts from San Jose State University with an emphasis in Illustration and Animation. Nestled in the heart of the Silicon Valley, the Illustration/Animation program at San Jose State is one of the best kept secrets for the entertainment industry by providing recruits to work in the film and video game fields. Much of his work experience has been in the print industry. He has created artwork for t-shirts, business cards, souvenirs, vehicle wraps, brochures, banners, signs, and various other products.  Andre has been privileged to work on projects involved with Disney, Marvel, Nascar, the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, and the National Football League.

Mr. Mossman also has a Masters in Science in Graphic Information Technology from Arizona State University with an emphasis in Web Design.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 children as well as working on personal art projects. He likes to read science fiction books as well as enjoy pretty much any movie with action in it. Mr. Mossan was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and has also lived in Texas, Florida, California, Utah, and Arizona. You can view samples of his work at:

Meet Gilbert North's 7-12 Art Teacher

I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Utah State University with an emphasis in Sculpture. In addition to sculpture and other three-dimensional arts, I have many years of experience working with a wide variety of two-dimensional media.

While attending Utah State University I worked on numerous commissions for museums and private collectors throughout the state including the University Department of Geology. These commissions focused primarily upon Paleoart including three Utahraptor sculptures and mural, a Pteranodon, a Dilophosaurus, and a Stegosaurus. My favorite was the commission to recreate a 1/3 scale Utahraptor as a permanent addition to the Utah State University Department of Geology Museum.

In my spare time I love spending time hiking, camping, and backpacking outdoors with my wife. We have made a personal goal to visit and hike all of the National Parks in the United States. I also have a passion for film and love going to movies with friends and family. As a teacher at the American Leadership Academy I have loved inspiring the creativity in children of all ages. Art is magic, and has the ability to heal the body, mind, and soul. Never stop creating!

Besides being a 3D artist, Scot has spent the last few years developing his skills as a graphic designer. He is passionate about what he does and loves learning new things. He also enjoys sharing and teaching what he has learned with others, which is one of the reasons why he became a teacher. When Scot is not teaching, he likes making digital art, working out, and spending time with his family.

Meet Gilbert North's 7-12, Digital Photography Teacher

While I have always been into picture making, my official training started when I attended the Art Students League of New York (an art school in New York City started by students in 1875), later I earned a Bachelors of Fine Art at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. I have sold commissioned artwork for over 20 year, before, during and after attending school. I have done photographic work in Paris, Vienna, New York City, Los Angeles, as well as Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Thailand, China and Australia. I started teaching in January of 2017 at a school for at-risk youth. It was especially rewarding but while there I learned of ALA and the raise values which resonated strongly with me. I soon after met with the then future director of the Gilbert North campus, and started teaching at ALA the following school year in September 2017. In my spare time, I like to hike, rock climb, kayak, and float down the salt river with my wife.
