American Leadership Academy Gilbert North provides tuition-free public charter education for students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
The elementary years are where students begin building the knowledge and habits they will use throughout school. Gilbert North places particular emphasis on literacy while helping students grow in mathematics, critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, character, and responsibility.

Elementary Academics Built for Long-Term Growth
The work students do in elementary school becomes the foundation for everything that follows. Students cannot think deeply about a subject they know very little about, which is why broad knowledge matters.
Gilbert North uses a structured academic approach featuring the Core Knowledge curriculum, with a strong emphasis on literacy and mathematics. Teachers help students develop critical skills while steadily adding the background knowledge that makes later learning easier to understand. The goal is not to rush students through material. It is to help them understand enough to keep building on it.

Building Strong Literacy at Gilbert North
At Gilbert North, we describe literacy development as a central part of our academic approach. Reading and writing are not limited to English class, and our program ensures students are prepared for the complex texts they will eventually encounter in junior high and high school.
We actively guide our students through two critical areas of development:
- Reading to Learn: We help young learners transition from learning how to read toward using reading to learn something new in science, history, and mathematics.
- Communicating Clearly: Because writing develops alongside reading, we teach students how to turn thoughts into sentences, organize information, explain ideas confidently, and communicate effectively with others.
These essential skills take years to master, and Gilbert North's elementary classrooms provide the perfect starting point.

Kindergarten is an important first step in a child’s elementary education. We offer a comprehensive full-day kindergarten program thoughtfully designed to help children build academic readiness, positive classroom habits, confidence, and comfort within a school environment. Families can review the daily schedule and learning experiences to see exactly how we support their child's early education.
