A Heartfelt Veterans Day Celebration at ALA Gilbert South
ALA Gilbert South came together for a truly remarkable Veterans Day assembly—one filled with gratitude, pride, and powerful moments that our community will remember for years to come.
We opened the morning with our first grade teacher and Air Force Veteran, Mrs. Brennan, proudly leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Her service and leadership set the tone for a heartfelt celebration.

Several students then took the stage to share their beautifully written reports honoring the veterans in their own families. Their words—full of admiration, respect, and love—captured the spirit of the day and reflected the deep appreciation our young learners have for those who serve.
A highlight of the assembly was witnessing one of our fourth grade students welcome her father, Marine Corps Veteran Mr. Cardwell, to speak about his time in the military. His message was both inspiring and deeply personal, reminding us of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience embodied by all who have served.

We were also honored to hear from Mrs. Yorgesen, our second grade teacher and Navy Veteran, who shared stories from her service and the lessons she continues to carry with her into the classroom each day.

Our student council read "The Boots Beside the Bed," a story honoring the military service of a grandfather and how his stories impacted his grandson, Lucas, to show service at school. In the story, grandpa shared "service doesn't come from what's on your feet - it comes from what's in your heart."
The celebration continued with our annual Veterans Day breakfast, a special time for our veteran families to gather, connect, and be appreciated by our school community.
From start to finish, the morning was filled with heartfelt recognition and meaningful reflection. Our Veterans Day assembly wasn’t just an event—it was a celebration of the brave individuals who protect our freedoms and the families who support them. It was truly a memorable experience for all.
