American Leadership Academy Ironwood provides tuition-free public charter education for students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
The elementary years are where students begin building the knowledge and habits they will use throughout school. At Ironwood, that means developing strong reading, writing, mathematics, science, and problem-solving skills while also learning how to manage responsibility, work with others, and grow through effort.

Elementary Academics Built for Long-Term Growth
The work students do in elementary school becomes the foundation for everything that follows.
Ironwood uses a structured academic approach that introduces new material in manageable pieces and gives students opportunities to practice, participate, and strengthen understanding before moving ahead. ALA’s current curriculum includes Core Knowledge, Eureka Math, a strong focus on literacy and mathematics, R.A.I.S.E. Leadership, grade-appropriate homework, and tutoring opportunities.
The goal is not to rush students through material. It is to help them understand enough to keep building on it.

Building Strong Literacy at Ironwood
At Ironwood, we know that reading is the foundation of almost everything a child does in school. Our elementary program places a strong, intentional focus on literacy to ensure students are fully prepared for the academic challenges ahead.
We actively guide our students through two critical areas of development:
- Reading to Learn: We help young learners transition from foundational reading skills to tackling complex texts in science, history, and mathematics.
- Communicating Clearly: Because writing develops alongside reading, we teach students how to organize their thoughts, explain ideas confidently, and support their work with strong evidence.
These essential skills take years to master, and Ironwood's elementary classrooms provide the perfect starting point.

Students often discover their true passions simply by having the chance to try something new. That is why Ironwood’s elementary model provides engaging opportunities that go well beyond traditional core subjects.
Whether they are in the classroom, the art studio, or on the field, we believe all of it is learning.
Gifted & Talented
Advanced Learning Opportunities
Some students are ready to move beyond the general classroom lesson. Ironwood’s Gifted & Talented program gives qualifying students grades 2-6 opportunities to work on cross-curricular learning that extends into greater depth and complexity.
Teachers use Webb’s Depth of Knowledge framework to encourage higher-level thinking and help students work through questions that require more than simple recall.

Kindergarten at Ironwood
Kindergarten is an important first step in a child’s elementary education. We offer a comprehensive full-day kindergarten program thoughtfully designed to help children build academic readiness, positive classroom habits, confidence, and comfort within a school environment. Families can review the daily schedule and learning experiences to see exactly how we support their child's early education.
