What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are publicly funded educational organizations that enjoy increased flexibility and autonomy compared to standard public schools. Founded through a charter—a performance contract specifying the school's mission, educational programs, goals, and evaluation methods—they aim to foster innovation and provide diverse educational opportunities tailored to their communities' specific needs.
