National Honor Society
More than an honor roll
NHS at ALA Sierra Vista
The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes ALA Sierra Vista students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. More than an honor roll, NHS honors students who lead by example and strengthen the life of their school and community.
Through NHS, students do more than earn recognition. They take on service, mentor their peers, and help improve conditions at Sierra Vista and beyond. These experiences help students grow into dependable leaders, engaged citizens, and active members of the Sierra Vista community.
Student Eligibility
Students with a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.5 in 9th and 10th grade are eligible to apply in the fall of their junior year. GPAs are not rounded. Eligible students receive an invitation to apply along with the full application packet and instructions.
Students who don't meet the GPA requirement as juniors are encouraged to keep working toward it — eligibility is reviewed again in the fall of senior year. Because scholarship is only one of four pillars, students are also encouraged to build a record of service and involvement well before they apply.

Election to the Society
The National Honor Society recognizes students for outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Meeting the grade point average requirement of 3.5 is not the sole criteria for acceptance.
Evidence that you meet the qualifications of scholarship, leadership, character, and service — as well as at least a cumulative unweighted grade point average of 3.5 — is necessary to be eligible for membership.
Membership
Membership in the chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities. Members who resign or are dismissed are never again eligible for its benefits.
