School Leaders

Kira Middleton, Director

Kira Middleton has been blessed to be part of the ALA family since she first moved to Arizona in 2013. She began right here at the Gilbert campus. Kira was then part of the founding teams in opening both the Ironwood and Gilbert North Elementary campuses and is honored to be returning to where her love for the families of ALA first began. In her 8 years with American Leadership Academy, she has held positions in administration, as a behavior specialist, and as a second grade teacher.

Kira was born and raised in San Diego, California. After completing her Bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University-Idaho, she moved to Arizona in search of never ending sunshine. She has happily called this beautiful state home ever since.

Kira is passionate about facilitating an educational environment where every student can achieve their full potential to truly change the world.

Caree Safsten, Assistant Director

Caree Safsten is an Arizona native with extensive experience in education and a love for the community. She received an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University in Special Education and a Masters of Education Administration from Grand Canyon University.  Caree taught special education for many years before joining the ALA family in 2016 as a Special Education Site Coordinator. She was part of the founding team leading  ALA Gilbert North Elementary and High School to a successful opening. She was most recently the special education teacher at ALA Gilbert Elementary.

Caree and her husband Mark are blessed with a large family of 10 amazing children, 15 adorable grandchildren, and 2 pups.  She loves getting together with the family for games and activities.  She is tickled to peek in on grandchildren everyday during school.  She also enjoys traveling with her husband, exercising, cooking, and working in the family garden.  Caree’s family owns a small online t-shirt company, Flybird Apparel, that seeks to promote positive messages through their product.

Caree is honored to represent American Leadership Academy and the vision to Learn. Lead.  Change the World!
