Week 31 Updates
Cassie Eckerman

Hello parents,

We are on week 2 of state testing today and it is going really well! I'm so proud of their hard work! Here are your updates for week 31:

Weekly Homework- There will be no weekly homework for this week due to state testing. Please continue having your child study state capitals and get a good night's rest each night.

AZMerit- We have our state testing this week! Please make sure your child goes to bed early the night before and eats a good breakfast that morning (see testing schedule below).

Volunteer Hours- Don't forget to log your volunteer (or donation) hours! You can do this on Track it Forward here: https://www.trackitforward.com/site/ala-mesa-pso

State Capitals- A packet went home which outlines the upcoming states and capitals test. We also made flash cards for the first test and we will be practicing at school quite a bit. However, they should keep their flash cards in their backpack so they can practice at home as well. The next test is Friday April 16 (we pushed it back 2 days due to state testing). There will be a cumulative test on State Capitals and location of each state on May 14.

Environmental Form: It is not ALA's Policy to allow teacher requests. However, if your child has certain environmental needs for the coming school year, you may ask for an Environmental Request Form from the front office.

Talent Show: Auditions will be held 04/26-04/29. Video submissions should be no longer than 1 minute 30 seconds, with in-person auditions/performances being no longer than 1 minute. The tentative date for the talent show is Friday, May 7th which is also the last day to send in the video submission of the act.Video submission and stage auditions are separate with the videos needing to be sent in by Friday May 7th. Any questions can be directed to mwarby@alaschools.org

BizTown- In fifth grade we typically teach financial literacy and then attend the BizTown field trip. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we are not able to attend this year. We will still be teaching the curriculum and I thought it would be cool to have parents or extended family members/friends submit a video about their career. This will be shared with all classes in fifth grade. If interested, please email me a video clip explaining or showing what you do for a living! We would love jobs and careers of all types. TIA!

Otter Pops- Otter pops will be sold every Friday for $.50

Grades- Grades can always be checked on Infinite Campus. Feel free to email us if you have questions or concerns about a grade.

Handbook-Here is a copy of the student/parent handbook

Dress code: Please make sure your child is in dress code. With the warmer months approaching we are seeing a lot of short skirts on girls and gym shorts on the boys. Please help us make sure they are in dress code as it also reflects on us and results in them getting dress coded.
