The R.A.I.S.E. curriculum and philosophy will be based on a classical model, with a particular emphasis on grammar and logic, using the Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E. D. Hirsch, Jr. Teachers will emphasize observation, memorization, small group instruction, and presentation of introduced and learned content. The Core Knowledge Sequence is a research-based, coherent, cumulative, content-specific K–10 curricular sequence in the language arts, history and geography, science, art, and music. Core Knowledge Language Arts content is infused into the teaching of skills such as reading and writing. All students are supported in academic growth and achievement, and all are challenged to become thoughtful, articulate young adults prepared for a lifetime of citizenship and intellectual inquiry. We strive to use evidence and data-based instructional practices to ensure that students learn and succeed with a secure path to higher education.
We will implement Singapore Math and emphasize movement and learning independence. Because much of the delivery is project-based, ALA Coastal will design comfortable classrooms with stations and rotations. ALA Coastal will encourage leadership and work to express values consistent with our Nation’s foundations. Our students will understand what a privilege it is to be an American. ALA Coastal takes to heart Plato’s observation that fine arts and athletics play a crucial role in education. The arts will be integral to the school’s culture. To promote the classical ideal of a sound mind in a sound body, we will encourage daily physical activity and healthy habits.
