Each charter school in North Carolina is open to any student who lives in the state. According to NC law, applicants must live in North Carolina at the time of application. ALA Coastal is a public school that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, creed, or gender.

Yes, you must apply EVERY SCHOOL YEAR for the specific grade that your student will be in.

No, in early spring we send out an intent form to confirm your seat(s) for the following school year.

Yes. In order to stay true to our charter, we must limit our class sizes. Priority enrollment is the best way to secure a spot for your child.

No. You will be notified within 5 business days with the results of the lottery.  You must confirm your space after the lottery or your child’s seat will be forfeited and moved to the bottom of the waitlist.

To apply to kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before August 31.

• Sibling preference. The term “siblings” includes any of the following who reside in the same household: half-siblings, step siblings, and children residing in a family foster home.

No, ALA Coastal is a tuition-free K-11 public charter school with a quality fee based pre-k program.

Undoubtedly this is frustrating. We try to keep families together, so when one sibling is accepted and has another sibling waitlisted in another grade, that waitlisted sibling gets an enrollment preference, meaning they move to the bottom of the sibling waitlist. This means that occasionally parents will see their children move down the list instead of up.
