Meet the Director
Deyonta Thacker, Director
Ms. Thacker is originally from the beautiful state of Virginia. She obtained her master's degree in educational leadership & administration from Grand Canyon University and a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication with a minor in English from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. Ms. Thacker holds professional educator certifications in School Principal (K-12), Educational Leadership (K-12), and English Learner (EL) certification.
With over sixteen years of educational experience, Ms. Thacker has taught in various district and charter school settings, teaching English in general and inclusion secondary classrooms. In addition, Ms. Thacker has previously taught at the collegiate level for several years as an adjunct English professor. Throughout her tenure as an educator, she has served in various positions, from English Department Chair, (K-12) Dean of Culture & Instruction, Director of Academic Programs, Testing, Section 504, MTSS, English Language Coordinator, and Vice Principal.
On a personal note, Ms. Thacker loves dancing, interior design, traveling, and testing her skills in the kitchen. Ms. Thacker enjoys spending time with her daughter Trinity and serving as a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Ms. Thacker is a dedicated lifelong learner, and her vision is to serve ALA Monroe wholeheartedly by establishing trust and meaningful relationships. Her fervent goal is to cultivate a moral and wholesome environment at ALA Monroe by providing effective leadership that will both shift and increase student performance and teacher self-efficacy—ultimately, making an impact that allows staff, students, and community partners R.A.I.S.E. to academic excellence!
