The National Collegiate Athletic Association, or NCAA, is a membership-driven organization dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of student-athletes and equipping them with the skills to succeed on the playing field, in the classroom and throughout life. If you are interested in taking your athletic ability to the next level, the first thing you’ll need to do is fill out the NCAA Worksheet below. This worksheet will allow you to track your progress and make sure you are on track for your future. We also recommend that you meet with a counselor, athletic director, and visit the NCAA website.
You will also want to go on to www.eligibilitycenter.org to learn more about classes required by the NCAA and those that qualify at ALA. Any questions you may have please set up a time to meet with an academic counselor.
NCAA Worksheet Instructions:
*Please note – The NCAA’s GPA calculation does not coincide directly with ALA’s overall GPA calculation; therefore the calculation will look different.
Step 1: Download the NCAA Worksheet and acquire a copy of your student’s transcript (which can be requested online) from Student Services. This will have completed grades/credits.
Step 2: Enter all completed English Classes.
- Credit column – Enter – 0.5 per semester for completed credit.
- Grade column – Enter – A, B, C, or D. F grades will not be accepted.
- Enter Scale – A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1.
Notice the credit column now has 2.5 credits, and the quality points have calculated to 8. Please only enter data into the credit, grade, and scale columns.
Notice at the bottom of the sheet, the Core Course GPA has begun to calculate.
Step 3: Repeat Step 2 for all completed courses.
Step 4: Refer to the Sliding Scale for Division I and Division II/III. Students must have the minimum sum ACT or SAT the matches the newly calculated Core Course GPA.
For example: Division I sliding scales – A student with a Core Course GPA of 2.4, must have an SAT sum score of 840 or higher or an ACT sum score of 71 or higher.
