High School Testing Information
At ALA, we provide several opportunities to take standardized assessments. We focus on those assessments that will facilitate college admissions and that are recognized across the nation and globally.
The purpose of the ACT Aspire is to show readiness to take the ACT. Like the ACT, the ACT Aspire is a timed test. Students will spend a combined total of about four hours to complete the test. Students will be tested in the following areas: English, math, reading, and science. Practice tests can be found by visiting this site. More information can be found by visiting the ACT Aspire website. Beginning in the spring of 2022, the ACT Aspire test will be administered to all 9th graders at ALA. This test will be scheduled during a regular school day. The ACT Aspire is free to ALA students taking it on ALA’s test day.
For the 21-22 school year, the ACT Aspire is scheduled for April 19, 2022.
The ACT is a college readiness indicator test that measures content knowledge in the areas of English, math, reading, and science. Including breaks, the ACT will take approximately three hours and 30 minutes to complete. Free practice tests can be found by visiting the ACT Test Prep site here. The ACT will be administered to all 11th grade students at ALA. The test will be scheduled during a regular school day. The ACT is free to ALA students taking it on ALA’s test day.
For the 21-22 school year, the ACT is scheduled for April 5, 2022.
The purpose of the PSAT is to measure student readiness for the SAT as well as to determine if students are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship and other potential scholarship options. The test is approximately two hours and 45 minutes long and covers the following content areas: reading, writing and language, and math. To find free practice tests, please visit the College Board website here. ALA typically offers the PSAT once per year, but there are other locations that offer the PSAT, which can be found by visiting this site. The PSAT is free for 10th graders taking it at ALA on our test day and $15 for 11th graders.
For the 21-22 school year, the PSAT is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th, 2021.
The SAT is another college readiness indicator test that many colleges will review when students submit an application. The SAT includes reading, writing and language, and math tests. The SAT has an optional essay component, which some colleges will require. Please check with your university to see if this is a requirement before registering for the SAT. The SAT typically takes around three hours to complete, including breaks. Free practice tests can be found by visiting the SAT Practice Test site here. ALA aims to offer the SAT once per year, typically on a Saturday. Visit the SAT website to register for an upcoming SAT test. The SAT costs $55. A fee waiver may be available. Check with your Student Services Advisor to see if you’re eligible.
